— is probably what you all have been wondering.
Don’t worry: I’m still here, and I’m still writing!
I want to start out by apologizing to each and every one of you for this extended period of radio silence. It’s been almost a year since I posted anything on social media– a span of time that, in this day and age, would lead most to believe that I’ve sailed off the flat edge of the world.
What actually happened is only slightly less harrowing.
This has been a very strange season of life for me. I’ve felt a bit like a nomad for the last five years: bouncing from one end of the country to the other, staying with family who were kind enough to put me up. Much like a traveling bard– except without the lyre. Then, last September, everything changed at once.
I was blessed with the opportunity to move back to my native Texas (The Promised Land), bought my first home (a small ’76 fixer-upper with a lot of … ah, “character”), and welcomed to the world my first baby niece (who is, by every standard, a work of absolute perfection).
The downside to all of these wonderful things is that I’ve been very distracted … well, I’m not sure that distracted actually does it justice. Moving and buying a home are stressful enough– but add to that a giggly, blue-eyed niece who’s recently learned to beam at the people she loves with a heart-melting grin, and it’s a wonder that I’ve gotten anything done at all.
Oh, and did I mention the remodel? I discovered too late that the word remodel comes from a latin phrase meaning: “the tenth circle of hell.”
I jest. It was just a much more frightening and involved process than I ever realized (Lowe’s saved the day!).
This is the first time I’ve written on an actual computer in eight months– I finally got to unpack it Tuesday. Yes, it’s been a strange season. Lots of learning, tons of mistakes. It’s safe to say that anything resembling a writing schedule has been torn to shreds, stomped on, and soundly burned. But I have been writing, and I do plan to have a sneak peek ready for you all by the end of the month … 🙂
I want to thank you again for your patience, and for your trust. I promise that I am working hard to ensure that this next adventure, although set in a brand new world, lives up to the standards of the previous one.
Thank you for reading and have a wonderful weekend!
